At Bloom Physiotherapy, we support babies and children’s development by looking at how the muscles of their face, mouth, and jaw work together and how this may influence breathing, feeding, sleep, posture, and movement patterns.

Our focus is on understanding the whole picture so we can support your child’s comfort, function, and development in a practical and family-centred way.

Why this matters

When these foundational systems are working well, they may support your child’s comfort, coordination, regulation, and day-to-day function.

Our role as children’s physiotherapists is to identify areas where function may be improved and provide supportive strategies that fit into everyday family life.

Who we support

We work with babies, children and adolescents who may benefit from support with:

  • Muscle tension or asymmetry in the face, jaw, or body

  • Breathing patterns and oral function which support feeding, sleep, speech, and early oral development.

  • Movement patterns and gross motor development

  • Postural development and coordination

  • Early developmental concerns or delays

Our approach focuses on how muscles and movement patterns work together. We aim to support more efficient function, reduce tension where appropriate, and help children develop skills that support their growth and daily activities.

This is always tailored to your child and guided by their individual needs.

Collaborative care

We regularly work alongside other health professionals in the Hobart area as well as more broadly (including telehealth) to support your child’s care, including:

GPs, ENT specialists, paediatricians, dentists, orthodontists, lactation consultants, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, osteopaths, and allied health practitioners.

This collaborative approach helps ensure your child’s care is coordinated and consistent.

Our Approach

We offer longer, more thorough appointments so we can take the time to truly understand your child’s history and current concerns—without feeling rushed.

Our approach combines physiotherapy and orofacial myofunctional therapy to assess how breathing, oral function, posture, movement, and development are interconnected, allowing us to create an individualised plan tailored to your child and family.

Consultations are available in person in Hobart, Tasmania, via Telehealth, or as in-home visits for babies up to 12 months (where appropriate), aiming to make support more accessible for families.

This allows us to:

  • Clearly explain what’s going on (for both you and your child)

  • Provide practical, fun, tailored strategies you can actually implement at home

  • Create comprehensive referrals, reducing the need for you to repeat your story

  • Liaise with other professionals on your behalf when needed

Optional pre-appointment parent discussions are also available, giving you space to share concerns, ask questions, and feel more prepared.

At the core of this approach is a simple belief: how children breathe, sleep, and develop can influence how they move, learn, regulate, and feel day to day.

By taking the time to look at the bigger picture and support these foundations early, small changes can make a meaningful difference in your child’s long-term development and wellbeing—and help you feel confident in how to support them.
